{"id":338,"date":"2026-09-03T06:22:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T06:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pamelaparkerfollick.org\/?p=338"},"modified":"2026-08-31T16:06:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T16:06:03","slug":"spirituality-doesnt-need-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pamelaparkerfollick.org\/es\/spirituality-doesnt-need-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Spirituality Doesn\u2019t Need Rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Your relationship with something greater than yourself is allowed to look like you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a long time, I think many of us were taught that spirituality came with rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There were certain things you were supposed to believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Certain ways you were supposed to connect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Certain words you were supposed to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Certain practices that counted \u2014 and others that didn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But somewhere along my own journey, spirituality became much simpler for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It became personal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It became less about following someone else&#8217;s path and more about discovering my own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me, spirituality can look like sitting outside under a full moon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can look like pulling tarot cards and asking myself what I need to pay attention to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It can be Reiki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talking to my ancestors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Noticing a butterfly that appears at exactly the moment I needed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sitting quietly and listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Being grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trusting my intuition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it&#8217;s ritual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it&#8217;s simply standing outside in the rain and feeling connected to something larger than myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And sometimes it&#8217;s questioning everything I thought I knew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I don&#8217;t believe spirituality requires us to have all the answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, I think some of the most meaningful parts begin when we&#8217;re willing to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I don&#8217;t know. But I&#8217;m open.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open to wonder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open to curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open to noticing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open to the possibility that there may be things we don&#8217;t fully understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your spirituality doesn&#8217;t have to look like mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It doesn&#8217;t have to look like your family&#8217;s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It doesn&#8217;t have to fit neatly inside a particular belief system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t need tarot cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t need crystals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t need to meditate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don&#8217;t need to believe in astrology, energy, signs, ancestors, angels, God, the Universe \u2014 or use any particular language at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What matters, I believe, is connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whatever helps you feel connected to yourself, to other people, to nature, to your ancestors, to something sacred, or simply to the mystery of being alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe spirituality isn&#8217;t something we&#8217;re supposed to get <em>right<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe it&#8217;s something we&#8217;re allowed to explore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To change our minds about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To make our own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because coming home to yourself can also mean giving yourself permission to decide what <strong>you<\/strong> believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A gentle invitation to reflect<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you removed everything you&#8217;ve ever been told spirituality is <em>supposed<\/em> to look like, <strong>what would be left?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When have you felt most connected to something beyond yourself?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In nature? In music? In silence? In community? Through prayer, ritual, creativity, movement or something you can&#8217;t quite explain?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And perhaps the bigger question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What do you believe when you give yourself permission to simply listen to yourself?<\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Your relationship with something greater than yourself is allowed to look like you.
