I let go. I trusted the process.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As though surrender is one peaceful decision we make, followed by immediate freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That hasn&#8217;t been my experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Surrender can be messy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it looks like denial before acceptance. Anger before understanding. Grief for what was. Fear of what comes next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes surrender means watching something you were certain you needed begin to fall away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes it means sitting in the darkness long enough to realize that you cannot bring everything with you into whatever comes next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And sometimes it feels a whole lot more like <strong>dissolving<\/strong> than becoming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s the part I don&#8217;t think we talk about enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The caterpillar doesn&#8217;t simply decide to become a butterfly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is an entire process in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A breaking down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A releasing of one form before another can fully emerge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I think there are seasons in our lives that ask the same of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We release beliefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Identities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Relationships with ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ways of surviving that once protected us but no longer fit the life we&#8217;re trying to build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And surrender isn&#8217;t something we choose once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At least, it hasn&#8217;t been for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve had to surrender again and again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I became uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I wanted answers before they were available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When something wasn&#8217;t happening according to my timeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I could feel myself reaching backward toward something familiar simply because the unknown felt too uncertain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Again and again, the invitation has been:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Let go.<br>Trust.<br>Allow.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then do it again tomorrow if you need to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is another side to surrender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this is the part I don&#8217;t ever want to leave out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because eventually, something begins to emerge from everything that was released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is space where there wasn&#8217;t space before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are possibilities you couldn&#8217;t see while you were holding so tightly to what you thought life was supposed to look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a version of yourself you couldn&#8217;t have met without first allowing an older version to soften, change, and sometimes completely fall apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then one day, you look around and realize:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Oh. This is what all of that was making room for.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because everything suddenly becomes perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because you&#8217;ve changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your world has expanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your wings have grown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And you finally get to explore places the caterpillar could never have imagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why I have learned to trust surrender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because surrender is easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because I enjoy the dissolving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But because I&#8217;ve lived long enough to see what can grow from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And every time life asks me to surrender again, I try to remember:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I don&#8217;t have to know exactly what is waiting on the other side to trust that something new is being created.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A reflection for you<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is there something you&#8217;re being asked to surrender right now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And instead of asking only,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhat am I losing?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">maybe there is another question worth sitting with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhat might this be making room for?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a version of surrender that sounds beautiful.
