{"id":429,"date":"2026-09-23T06:33:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-23T06:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pamelaparkerfollick.org\/?p=429"},"modified":"2026-09-21T14:59:30","modified_gmt":"2026-09-21T14:59:30","slug":"nothing-changed-except-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pamelaparkerfollick.org\/es\/nothing-changed-except-me\/","title":{"rendered":"Nothing Changed Except Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve been through enough periods of growth in my life now that I&#8217;ve started to recognize when one is happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some people might call it an awakening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think I just want to call it growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because we all grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you&#8217;re spiritual or not, whether you believe in divine timing and soul contracts or absolutely none of that, there are periods in our lives when something within us begins to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I&#8217;ve learned that, for me anyway, it usually starts quietly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Things just start to feel&#8230; different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something I used to enjoy doesn&#8217;t hold my attention the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A food I&#8217;ve always loved suddenly doesn&#8217;t appeal to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A place that once felt completely comfortable starts to feel a little different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The way I want to spend my time changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My priorities shift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What interests me changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things I want to learn about or talk about change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What I want professionally changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What I need financially changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The way I want to care for myself changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes even the way I imagine my future begins to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And for a while, I usually don&#8217;t recognize any of this as growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I just think something is fucking weird. \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I start looking around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What changed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What happened?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why doesn&#8217;t this feel the way it used to?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is something wrong?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And sometimes there is an obvious answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But sometimes&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody did anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There wasn&#8217;t some dramatic event that changed everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The food didn&#8217;t change its recipe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The place didn&#8217;t suddenly become different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things I enjoyed didn&#8217;t become bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My life didn&#8217;t necessarily stop being good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nothing changed except me.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And you&#8217;d think that after experiencing this enough times, I&#8217;d recognize what&#8217;s happening and gracefully surrender to the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Absolutely fucking not. \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I resist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I analyze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I question everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I try to figure out what changed so I can fix it and get everything feeling comfortable again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because here&#8217;s the thing about growth&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sometimes you don&#8217;t actually want it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you like your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you&#8217;re comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you&#8217;ve worked really fucking hard to get comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then something inside you starts shifting anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I didn&#8217;t ask for this particular period of growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I wasn&#8217;t sitting around thinking, <em>You know what would be great? Another massive period of personal transformation.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No thank you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was actually enjoying myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But apparently growth doesn&#8217;t require our permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It starts nibbling at us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A little discomfort here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A little restlessness there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something that used to fit doesn&#8217;t quite fit the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An idea keeps coming back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A feeling won&#8217;t completely go away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s this quiet sense that something is changing even when you can&#8217;t explain what it is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if you&#8217;re anything like me, you can ignore those little nudges for an impressively long time. \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have this running joke that somewhere in my soul contract with God there&#8217;s a clause that says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>If Pam knows it&#8217;s time to grow and decides to fuck around and avoid it, just keep making her increasingly uncomfortable until she finally surrenders.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apparently God takes contractual obligations very seriously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because that&#8217;s usually what happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The whisper gets louder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The discomfort increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things I&#8217;ve been trying not to look at become harder to ignore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until eventually, resisting the change becomes more uncomfortable than allowing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that&#8217;s usually when I finally surrender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because I suddenly understand what&#8217;s happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because I know exactly where I&#8217;m going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And definitely not because I&#8217;ve developed some beautifully organized five year plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I surrender because I finally recognize what I&#8217;ve experienced enough times before:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I&#8217;m changing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And once I recognize that, I can stop desperately searching my external world for something to blame or fix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe nothing needs fixing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe something doesn&#8217;t have to become bad before it can feel different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe I don&#8217;t need to immediately understand what this change means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe I can simply notice it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Get curious about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Allow myself to ask different questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What feels different?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What am I drawn toward?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What doesn&#8217;t feel like me anymore?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What feels more like me?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What am I discovering about myself now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because perhaps one of the strangest parts of growth is that we don&#8217;t always recognize ourselves changing while it&#8217;s happening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We notice it through our relationship with everything around us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things we want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things we don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things that excite us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things that suddenly exhaust us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things we can&#8217;t stop thinking about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The things we&#8217;ve stopped thinking about entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And slowly, those little changes begin telling us something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I&#8217;m not exactly the person I was when I chose all of this.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That doesn&#8217;t tell me what happens next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m still figuring that part out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But maybe I don&#8217;t need to know yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maybe recognizing the change is enough for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because sometimes there isn&#8217;t a dramatic ending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There isn&#8217;t a villain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There isn&#8217;t a single moment you can point to and say, <em>That&#8217;s when everything changed.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes you look around at a life that appears almost exactly the same&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and realize it feels different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not because everything around you changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Because you did.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Question for Reflection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Have you ever
